Cousy: Celtics should keep Rajon Rondo 'unless he's a serial killer'

Boston Celtics Hall of Famer Bob Cousy, to put it mildly, doesn't think his old team should trade Rajon Rondo.

“I’m out of the loop, but boy, unless he’s a serial killer on the side I wouldn’t let this kid go,” Cousy told“I don’t know where you’d find a better point guard.”

Celtics GM Danny Ainge and coach Doc Rivers both denied a report by ESPN's Chris Broussard that the team was aggressively trying to trade Rondo, and that Rondo's relationship with Rivers is frayed.

“I don’t know where people are getting their information from,” Rondo said Friday, according to CSN New England. “But it was big of Doc to come out with a statement. People are still going to say me and Doc have problems. But even after that comment and statement he made, they are still going to say what they want to say. It’s just part of life.”

Paul Pierce, who along with Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen, has also popped up on the rumor mill, echoed that.

"It’s nothing we haven’t been through before. Rondo’s been through it. I’ve been though it a number of times. The thing is, you have to do your job, you can’t let that affect you," Pierce said.

"I kind of mentioned it to Rondo today—I was part of trade rumors for probably four or five straight years. I just didn’t let it affect me on how I approached each and every game. Whatever happens, happens. It’s business. Sometimes you don’t have control of it."
