The NBA has suspended Celtics guard Rajon Rondo for two games for arguing a call and throwing the ball at an official during Boston’s loss to the Detroit Pistons on Sunday night, the league announced.
The incident occurred with the Celtics trailing, 66-54, with about three minutes remaining in the third quarter. After Rondo missed a shot from the lane, Pistons center Greg Monroe landed on top of him. Rondo apparently believed a foul should have been called and was hit with two technicals in a five-second span, the second of which came when he tossed the ball, with some velocity, and hit the referee in the chest.
The suspension does not come at a good time from the Celtics. They’ve lost five of their last six games, and Rondo will miss their next two games, Monday in Dallas and Wednesday in Oklahoma City.
