Carmelo Anthony relationship with D’Antoni ‘deteriorating’; Stoudemire not happy, either

Things continue to tumble downhill for the New York Knicks, and indications of discontent within the locker room are bubbling up.

After the Knicks’ 104-99 loss in Chicago on Monday, New York’s sixth straight defeat, The New York Post reported the “relationship between Mike D’Antoni and Carmelo Anthony appears to be deteriorating,” and forward Amare Stoudemire said his teammates need to approach the game with a more professional attitude.

Anthony is disgruntled, a source told The Post, and the star forward decided not to join the team’s huddle during a third-quarter timeout—although Anthony says he sometimes does that when he’s not on the floor.

The Knicks are a paltry 2-8 since Anthony returned from a groin injury, and he has not played well during that stretch, putting up just 19.0 points per game on 40.4 percent shooting from the field.

As The Post notes, D’Antoni remains intent on running the offense through Jeremy Lin, not Anthony.

Meanwhile, some players were horsing around in the locker room before the Bulls game—someone threw food at reserve guard Mike Bibby, according to the New York Times—and Stoudemire said, “The joking around has to stop at some point. We got to take this game very serious, especially in a time where now we’re in the eighth seed and we’re not playing well. So the time is now.”
