Richard Childress Racing will hold its first NASCAR Pit Crew Training Combine this week at its complex in Welcome, N.C.
The event is the first in the 43-year history of the organization and will give experienced pit crewmen and aspiring crewmen an opportunity to showcase their pit stop skills and athletic ability.
The event is Tuesday and Wednesday from 2:30-4:30 p.m. The Tuesday session will focus on the positions of jackman and gasman, and Wednesday’s session will feature training for tire carriers and tire changers.
The combine will put participants through a variety of agility drills and physical tests, including mock training programs and real-time simulated pit stops in high-pressure situations. The training programs will be run by experienced pit crewmen from throughout the NASCAR industry.
"This event is an exciting opportunity for anyone with a passion to become a full-time pit crew member with an elite racing organization," said Eric Wilson, director of human performance at RCR. "With the right attitude and preparation, this combine could be a vital step towards an athlete's goal of taking that next step in their career."
There are no fees to participate, and the event is open to the public.
