Andre Drummond one-and-done at UConn, bound for NBA Draft

Andre Drummond will leave the University of Connecticut after this freshman year so he can enter the NBA Draft, the Connecticut Post reports. A formal announcement could come as soon as Thursday.

UConn is banned from 2013 postseason play, a major factor in Drummond’s decision, according to the report.

Drummond, a 6-10, 270-pound freshman, is projected to go as high as No. 2 in June’s draft, but some NBA scouts are wary of him because he is so raw. Sporting News’ Sean Deveney has Drummond going seventh overall in his latest mock draft. Draft Express lists Drummond as the second-best NBA prospect.

"I have a hard time thinking about taking someone ahead of (Drummond) because I think there's a big drop-off in potential," NBADraft.net founder and editor Aran Smith, whose site has Drummond as its No. 4 prospect, told the Post. "He's going to be scaring teams in both sides. If you don't take him, he can burn you, if you do take him, he might still burn you."

Drummond had a solid, if inconsistent, freshman season at UConn. He averaged 10.0 points, on 53.8 shooting from the field, 7.6 rebounds and 2.7 blocks. He also shot a miserable 29.5 percent from the free-throw line.
