Anthony Morrow to honor Drazen Petrovic in 3-point contest

New Jersey Nets guard Anthony Morrow will wear the No. 3 jersey of Drazen Petrovic when he competes in the 3-point shooting contest next Saturday night during the All-Star festivities in Orlando, the Star-Ledger reports. Petrovic, a former Nets sharp-shooter, died in a car accident in the summer of 1993 at the age of 28.

Petrovic played in the NBA for four seasons. He started with the Portland Trail Blazers in the 1989-90 season and was traded to New Jersey during the ’90-91 season. He shot 43.7 percent from behind the arc over his career. His jersey is one of five that has been retired by the Nets, the Star-Ledger notes.

Morrow wanted to honor Petrovic ever since watching "Once Brothers"—a documentary about the war-torn friendship between Petrovic, who is from Croatia, and Vlade Divac, who is from Serbia.

"I just remember—I don't remember a whole lot—but I remember he could shoot real, real good," Morrow said.

Morrow, who is shooting 41.4 from 3-point range this season, will compete against Heat guard and defending champ James Jones, Timberwolves forward Kevin Love, Magic forward Ryan Anderson, Hawks guard Joe Johnson and Heat guard Mario Chalmers in this year’s contest.
