Jeremy Evans replaces New York Knicks’ Iman Shumpert in Slam Dunk contest

New York Knicks wing Iman Shumpert is out of and Utah Jazz forward Jeremy Evans is in the NBA’s Slam Dunk contest, to be held Saturday night as part of the All-Star festivities in Orlando.

Shumpert sat out Monday’s game against the New Jersey Nets due to a knee injury and will rest up this weekend. He wanted to compete in the dunk contest, but getting healthy is his top priority, Hoopsworld reported. Shumpert’s withdrawal deprives NBA fans of a little more Jeremy Lin, since Lin was supposed to make some passes on Shumpert’s dunks.

The Jazz’s official website on Tuesday announced that Evans would compete in the dunk contest. A video of Evans dunking and encouraging fans to vote for him on Saturday night was also posted on the site, but was removed shortly thereafter since the NBA did want the news leaked, according to Hoopsworld.

Timberwolves rookie Derrick Williams, Pacers guard Paul George and Rockets forward Chase Budinger will compete against Evans on Saturday night.
