The Tulsa 66ers and Austin Toros will face each other for the fifth and final time in the NBA Development League regular season tonight in Texas, live on SportingNews.com starting at 8:30 p.m. ET.
The season series is even at 2-2. Each team has won their respective home games, which bodes well for the host Toros.
Both teams are trying to halt modest losing streaks with a win tonight. The 66ers have lost their last two games, including a buzzer-beating defeat at the hands of the Maine Red Claws on Tuesday night in Tulsa. Forward Marcus Lewis paced the 66ers with his 25th double-double of the season, going for 17 points and 10 rebounds.
"The most important thing to take away from this game is that I see our team making strides," Tulsa head coach Dale Osbourne said. "We have had a couple of tough games recently, but our focus must continue to be to work hard every day."
The Toros, who are playing their first home game since February 1, have lost their last three games, including two consecutive to the league-leading Los Angeles D-Fenders. Austin went 3-5 on its three-week road trip.
With little more than a month remaining in the regular season, the 66ers are currently on the outside looking in at a playoff berth. Tulsa (16-20) will be hungry to string wins together and potentially get a chance to challenge Austin (21-12) in the playoffs. The Toros currently have the third-best record in the league and are only three games behind the D-Fenders.
This will be the final game for both teams before heading to the All-Star break. Tulsa is sending guard Jerome Dyson and Lewis to Orlando, while Austin will be sending guard Justin Dentmon, head coach Brad Jones, assistants Taylor Jenkins and Alex Lloyd and athletic trainer Nixon Dorvilien. Forward Lance Thomas was selected to the West All-Star roster, but he is currently playing for the New Orleans Hornets and is not eligible for the NBA D-League All-Star Game.
