Lebanese basketball player Mohammad El Akkari drops 113 points in single game

Mohammad El Akkari of Tripoli-based Moutahed scored 113 points in a Lebanese Division A League Final 8 game Tuesday. Moutahed won the game over Bejjeh, 173-141.

The eye-popping performance marks the first time a player has scored more tan 100 points in an official game played in any FIBA Asia National Federations league.

Akkari was averaging just 7.6 points per game this season, his seventh with Moutahed. But Tuesday, the 27-year old guard shot 32-for-59 from 3-point range, and 40-for-69 overall from the field, and made one free throw, FIBA.com notes.

“He’s a phenomenal but very underrated shooter. He puts in a lot of hard work in practice. I am not surprised,” coach Ahmad Fadel said.

“Thank god for this performance. I think it’s all a result of my practice,” Akkari said.

Added Akkari’s American teammate, Austin Johnson, “He was awesome tonight. He starting out shooting the ball very well and just continued to go. Our team realized that he was on fire so we kept feeding him the ball. Congrats to Akkari on a record-setting night. He deserves it from the way he works and stays focused.”
