Nate McMillan fired as Portland Trail Blazers head coach

Nate McMillan has been fired as head coach of the Portland Trail Blazers, Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski reports.

After a promising start to the season, things have fallen apart for the Blazers. They’re losers of seven of their last nine games, with some of those defeats coming by embarrassing margins. They lost by 42 points to the New York Knicks—a team that’s not exactly in form—Wednesday night at Madison Square Garden, 121-79. Observers have been questioning the Blazers’ effort, and it’s no surprise to see McMillan go.

Assistant Kaleb Canales will take over as interim head coach, according to Yahoo!

It's been a busy trade deadline day for the Blazers, who have begun dismantling their roster with trades of Marcus Camby to the Houston Rockets and Gerald Wallace to New Jersey.

In 930 games as a coach with the Blazers and Seattle Sonics, McMillan is 478-452.
