NBA Report: Arenas signing with Grizzlies

Gilbert Arenas’ wait to latch on with an NBA team appears to be nearing its end.

In search of help for a hurting backcourt, the Memphis Grizzlies worked out Arenas and are prepared to sign him to a contract through the rest of the season, according to the Memphis Commercial-Appeal.

Arenas only needs to pass a physical and agree to a $300,000 veteran’s minimum contract in order to join the team. He could join the Grizzlies on their upcoming four-game West Coast trip, the Commercial-Appeal reports.

Arenas, left without a team for much of 2012, also worked out for the Los Angeles Lakers but never reached serious talks with the team. He last played for the Orlando Magic in the 2010-11 season. Arenas played from the bench when point guard Jameer Nelson was healthy but showed spark when inserted into the starting lineup. The former All Star averaged 10.8 points per game and shot only 36.6 percent.
