Boris Diaw’s days in a Charlotte Bobcats uniform could be coming to an end, as his agent, Doug Neustadt, has approached the organization about a buyout that would allow the forward to sign with another team, perhaps a playoff contender, this season.
Bobcats president of basketball operations Rod Higgins said that before he spoke to Neustadt, he met with Diaw about his expiring contract and his role on the team.
"Boris and I had a meeting prior to the All-Star break, maybe Wednesday before. We talked about quite a few things,'' Higgins told the Charlotte Observer. "The issue with the buyout, it was raised on their side, from Doug. We haven't gone down that road any further.''
Diaw has to be waived by March 23 in order to sign on with a new team, but he would not be bought out until after the March 15 trade deadline, the Observer notes.
Diaw, the Bobcats' second-highest paid player at $9 million, has been ineffective this season. He's averaging 7.7 points, the first time in his three seasons with the Bobcats he's averaging under double figures. And with the Bobcats sitting with the league’s worst record, coach Paul Silas may want to give younger power forwards Tyrus Thomas and D.J. White more minutes the rest of the season, according to the report.
