Kyle Lowry out 2-4 weeks, halting Rockets-Lakers trade talks

Houston Rockets point guard Kyle Lowry will miss the next two-to-four weeks of the season after being diagnosed with a bacterial infection, the Houston Chronicle reports.

Lowry checked into a hospital in New York with a fever and abdominal pain on Thursday, but is expected to return to Houston on Tuesday, according to the Chronicle.

The Rockets were hopeful that Lowry would not miss any extended period of time.

“It’s tough, it’s tough,” forward Chase Budinger said. “He’s definitely our leader and our go-to player on the team. Missing him for the next month or so is going to hurt us very much. The rest of us have to really step up because it’s a big hole to fill.”

Goran Dragic is starting at point guard in place of Lowry with Jonny Flynn backing him up.

Lowry’s ailment is also affecting his trade value. One rumor, cited by CBS Sports, has the Lakers potentially sending Pau Gasol to Houston in exchange for Lowry and Luis Scola. With Lowry out, however, that deal appears to be off. But, according to SN's Sean Deveney, the Rockets are unlikely to move Lawry.
