Tyson Chandler says hand is not fractured, will not need surgery after season

Knicks center Tyson Chandler told reporters on Saturday that his left hand is not fractured and that it will not require surgery after the season.

Chandler has had trouble grabbing the ball because of a left wrist injury, according to multiple reports. The Knicks' big man has been toughing it out with his team in the midst of the playoff race.

Knicks interim coach Mike Woodson, appreciates the effort that Chandler has put forth.

"All I can say is I'm glad he's on our team," Woodson told Newsday. "He's a true winner. He's a professional on and off the floor and he pushes himself."

Chandler has served as the team's defensive rock in the middle all season long and has emerged as a leader.

"Tyson has been very consistent for us," Carmelo Anthony told Newsday. "He's our anchor in the hole."

Chandler's presence has been even more important of late with point guard Jeremy Lin and Amare Stoudemire sidelined due to injury.

In 53 games, Chandler is averaging 11.2 points, 9.8 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game.
