Former lottery pick and three-time All Star Antoine Walker has officially retired from basketball after a last-ditch attempt to catch on with an NBA team.
Walker, 35, who played 13 seasons with the Celtics, Mavericks and Heat, announced his plans to retire Saturday to his Idaho Stampede teammates of the D-League. Walker last played in the NBA for the Minnesota Timberwolves in the 2007-08 season but stayed in basketball after his many financial troubles surfaced.
The highlight of Walker’s individual career came in Boston, where he made three All-Star teams and averaged better than 20 points in five of seven seasons with the Celtics. Walker also was a member of the 2005-06 NBA champion Miami Heat.
Over the course of his career, Walker averaged 17.5 points and 7.7 rebounds and shot better than 30 percent from 3-point range, retiring 21st on the all-time list for 3-pointers made.
