Baylor’s Perry Jones III will leave the Bears after two seasons to declare for the NBA Draft.
The 6-foot-10 forward will pursue a professional career after putting up averages of 13.5 points and 7.6 rebounds as a sophomore, Baylor announced on Monday.
“I want to thank Baylor Nation for an unbelievable two years,” Jones III said. “Baylor will always be a second home to me and I look forward to spending a lot of time in Waco and working towards finishing my degree.
“Thanks again to all the great Baylor fans for accepting me into your family,” Jones III said.
Largely considered a lottery pick for the past two years, many were surprised when Jones III came back for his sophomore year. He was suspended for the Big 12 tournament a year ago and had to serve a six-game suspension to begin the 2011-12 season, another reason he was unlikely to return.
Jones III was an All-American honorable mention selection of The Associated Press and and was named a second-team All Big-12 selection.
Freshman Quincy Miller, also a possible lottery pick, told Baylor coach Scott Drew he will decide whether to leave for the NBA or stay in college on Tuesday.
