Allene Wynn, 105-year-old fan, offers earful to Kobe Bryant, Lakers

Longtime Los Angeles Lakers fan Allene Wynn celebrated her 105th birthday at Saturday’s game at Staples Center, and she shared some words of wisdom for the inconsistent L.A. squad before it squeaked out an 88-85 win over the lowly New Orleans Hornets.

Wynn was thrilled to meet Kobe Bryant but wasn’t shy about offering him some construction criticism.

"It just made me feel good all over to meet him in person. I've been wanting to meet him for years," Wynn told. "I got to touch him. I shook hands with him and hugged him. I said, 'Wait, let me hug you, baby.' "

But, she added, "I told him what I thought about his playing. I said, 'You don't play like I want you to play.' I said, 'I done came all the way over here and I don't want to see none of that sorry stuff.' "

Well, that sorry stuff was exactly what she saw—through the first three-and-a-half quarters, anyway. Bryant missed his first 15 shots from the field against New Orleans, and didn’t score his first two points until there were 7:30 left in the fourth quarter. But he finished with 11 points, on 3-for-21 shooting, and hit the game-winning 3-pointer with 20 seconds remaining.

“I don’t think this game did anything to relax her,” Bryant said after the game.

Bryant appreciated Wynn’s direct approach. “She was awesome, just like the female Tex Winter,” he said.
