Los Angeles Lakers center Andrew Bynum has been fined by the team for “numerous infractions.”
Bynum blew off a meeting with Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak, according to the report. And that was just one thing that warranted the fine.
Before leaving the team’s shootaround on Tuesday, Bynum told that he was unaware of the fine.
Bynum has been making waves the past week. He was benched by coach Mike Brown after an ill-advised three-pointer last Tuesday, and on Saturday, after the Lakers squeezed out an 88-85 win at home over the Hornets, Bynum said, “I need some more shots, I think.” He later went on to say that he had gotten enough touches and was trying to pass more to rack up assists. He finished with two assists in the game.
Bynum has been having his best season in the NBA, averaging career-highs in points (17.9) and rebounds (11.9) per game. He has also been able to stay healthy this season, although an ankle sprain that he suffered on Sunday night is expected to keep him out of Tuesday’s home date with the New Jersey Nets.
“I can’t play,” Bynum told ESPNLosAngeles.com regarding the Nets game. Brown has said that Bynum’s status would be a game-time decision. Bynum is hoping to return for Wednesday's game against the Los Angeles Clippers.
